couples & solo students

We're aware that some establishments swap partners throughout the class. At our Dance Club, if you're a couple, you will only dance with the person with whom you've attended. Solo students are welcome to attend all of the classes we offer. Should a solo student wish to be partnered, we will do so.

class levels

BEGINNERS: This class is suitable for complete Beginners or for those looking to restart their dance journey & is perfect for those with little or no dance experience. You will learn the basic steps of a variety of dances, gaining the ability to dance each of them socially.
In Beginners we teach Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive & American Smooth. The Samba, Paso Doble, Latin American Jive & Viennese Waltz are introduced in our Improvers class; you are welcome to attend this class to try these dances if you have been dancing for a while.

PRE-IMPROVERS: Bridging the gap between Beginners & Improvers, this class is perfect for those who have gained some confidence with their basic steps but aren’t quite ready to move into the Improvers. This 30-minute class is only accessible to those who have attended the preceding Beginners class. This is because the session will focus on a small piece of Improvers-level choreography that you can insert into the dance just covered in the Beginners class. Whether you're learning a new step to insert into your routine or introducing a new piece of technique, this class provides you with the ideal space to build on what you’ve already learned whilst reinforcing good habits. Whilst this class introduces new & more stimulating variations, the calm & steady pace will ensure you continue to progress without feeling overwhelmed.

IMPROVERS: This class is suitable for those who have been dancing for at least a year & for those who wish to build upon the basic steps & techniques learnt in Beginners and Pre-Improvers, whilst continuing to expand their social dancing abilities.
It is a great transition class for those who feel they want to attend the Intermediate class but are a little cautious about taking the plunge. It is also a super place to start if you are feeling a little 'rusty'. At this level we also introduce the Samba, Viennese Waltz, Latin American Jive & Paso Doble.

INTERMEDIATE: This 30-minute class is great for those who want to experience some ‘Advanced’ steps & is suitable for those who have been dancing for at least two years. Only accessible to those who have attended the preceding Improvers class, we will continue with the same dance but will add more challenging choreography. Whilst continuing to build upon the techniques learnt in our previous three levels, the Intermediate class offers you an additional focus on technique and more information to enhance your knowledge of dance terminology.

ADVANCED: This class is suitable for those who have been dancing for at least three years. All aspects of dance are discussed. In this class you will embrace more intricate & stimulating choreography, enrich your repertoire & elevate your mastery of technique.

'BALLROOM & LATIN' LINE DANCING

Short Explanation: This isn't 'yeeha' cowboy dancing but is similar to Line Dancing. No partner is required! Ladies & gentlemen are welcome. Our routines are based upon 9 of the Ballroom and Latin dances (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive & Paso Doble). Popular party dances such as the Charleston Stroll are also taught. It's a great opportunity to experience dances that are not taught in group classes until the higher levels too. Full Explanation: For a more detailed explanation, advice, tips and videos, please click here.

What Is Sequence Dancing?

  • Sequence dancing is a style of Ballroom & Latin dancing.
  • The routines are standardised across the globe.
  • Everyone starts & ends at the same time.
  • Everyone travels around the dance floor in the same direction.
  • There's always someone to copy regardless of where you are.
  • Once you've learned a Sequence routine, the steps never change.
  • Navigating the dance floor is incredibly easy.
  • Bonus: You can add these steps to your other dances too.

free videos

Our videos offer improved image & audio quality with no objects or people obstructing your view & the footwork is constantly tracked. Videos can be downloaded onto any device or streamed to your smart TV. Videos will always be produced for our Club Members for free.

Important: Our videos are used on various public & private platforms. Please stand behind the camera or leave the room if you do not wish to appear in the background of these videos.

In the Beginners & Improvers Classes, we do not allow students to record the classes with their mobiles. Intermediate & Advance Students are welcome to.

  • Videos are uploaded within 5 days of your class taking place.
  • Videos will be deleted once the next video of your class is uploaded.
  • The weekly password resets on Tuesday night each week.
  • Please remember that you can contact Maggie for the password.

what to wear & bring

There is no dress code beyond suitability to the activity and environment. Please wear comfortable and sensible shoes (no flip flops, bare feet, loose fitting shoes or stiletto heels that may damage the floor). Pumps are fine. Please do not add chalk or powder to the soles of your shoes. Shoes must be worn at all times. Please bring a drink. Please avoid chewing gum. Please ask us if you would like advice.

DON'T FORGET YOUR BASICS

When joining any of the higher level classes, it's important to maintain your basics learnt in the Beginners class. This is especially beneficial for your floor management when you are dancing around other couples at events.

If you attend our Practice/Social /Pop-Up sessions, you'll still get the opportunity to practise BUT you're always welcome to attend our Beginners classes to maintain those important foundations you first learnt. We purposely have Beginners classes immediately next to our higher level classes. A number of students wisely attend both to maintain their skills.

Please do not wait for us to ask/invite you to join a class. It really is your choice when you feel ready.

please note

Our group classes are for the absolute beginner to the more experienced amateur (hobby) dancer and not for professional dancers of any dance genre. Steven teaches many dance professionals privately at a sensible additional rate.

We deem a professional as anyone who is currently or in the past earned an income from teaching any style of dance, receiving teacher training or performing dance in a professional sense. There is no introductory discount and the fee is £55.00 for 45 minutes. There is no exception to this policy.
