Blue Angel Rumba Workshop

Blue Angel Rumba is a dance we have never taught before and combines the calm, romantic character of Rumba with a smooth, measured rhythm that gives you time to enjoy each movement without feeling rushed.

If you have enjoyed Rumba One or learned some basic Rumba in class, Blue Angel Rumba offers a lovely next step. Its clear Sequence structure allows you to concentrate on timing and moving comfortably with your partner, while beginning to develop a more confident and expressive Rumba style.

You do not need to know the routine beforehand. Steven will introduce the steps, timing and transitions gradually, helping each section settle into place until the complete dance begins to feel comfortable, familiar and enjoyable.

As your confidence grows, you can spend less time thinking about what comes next and more time enjoying the music, character and feeling of the dance.

There are many steps you can take from the Blue Angel Rumba which can be used in your personal Rumba routine.

Once learned, Blue Angel Rumba becomes another valuable part of your growing Sequence repertoire and another dance you will be pleased to recognise at Social Dances, workshops and dancing holidays.

This gives you yet another opportunity to step onto the floor, enjoy the music and dance with confidence.

Tactical Improvement Session

Sometimes most of a dance feels comfortable, but one particular step, timing, position or uncertainty prevents the complete routine from feeling properly settled.

The Tactical Improvement Session gives those sticking points the time and attention they need.

Every couple is encouraged to suggest a Sequence Dance where:
  • a step does not feel quite right.
  • the timing feels uncertain.
  • you are unsure about your positioning.
  • a habit or shortcut may have developed.
  • you would like help with posture, shaping or styling.
  • something is affecting your confidence.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly formed question. If you simply know that something feels uncertain, tell us and we will help you identify what may need attention.

By spending longer on each selected question, you can understand what is happening, try a practical adjustment and experience the difference it makes. Steven and Maggie may also identify little habits or technical details that have been quietly affecting your dancing.

One couple’s question will often help several others. This keeps the session shared, sociable and supportive while giving you considerably more time for detailed improvement than our Original Run-Through format allows.

Because everyone is dancing the same set routine, you can give more attention to your timing, rhythm, musicality, posture, shaping and overall quality of movement.

The aim is not to dance perfectly. It is to leave with a clearer understanding of what to change, how to practise it and how a small adjustment can make your dancing feel more secure and enjoyable.
You can choose from these 21 Sequence Dances we have covered so far: Mayfair Quickstep, Rumba One, Square Tango, Catherine Waltz, Bossa Nova 66, Sindy Swing, Sally Ann Cha Cha, Lace Agate Swing, Caribbean Calypso, Valentino Jive, Saunter Together, Midnight Jive, Ria Bachata, Balmoral Blues, White City Waltz, Nikko Paso, Samba Katrina, Jacqueline Cha Cha, Chicago Swing, Mambo Marina & Argentine Stroll.

New to SEQUENCE dancing?

Sequence Dancing uses the same steps as Ballroom & Latin. A Sequence Waltz is still Waltz, and a Sequence Cha Cha is still Cha Cha.

What changes is the objective...

  • Ballroom & Latin: Learn the steps, then choose how to use them.
  • Sequence Dancing: Learn a short, set routine that remains the same.
Everyone dances the same routine at the same time, travelling in the same direction and finishing together. This removes much of the pressure of deciding what comes next or navigating around other couples.

Once learned, each routine becomes another dance you can recognise and enjoy at Social Dances, workshops, dancing holidays and cruises.

You do not need to know every Sequence Dance before joining us. Learn one dance at a time and gradually build a repertoire that allows you to join in more often, sit out less and enjoy greater variety.
