about the workshop
Have you ever been dancing comfortably around the room, only to reach a corner and suddenly wonder: “What do we do now?”
You know the steps and the music is playing, but the approaching corner makes it difficult to decide how to turn, where to go next or how to keep your dancing flowing.
That is exactly what our new 'CONQUERING CORNERS' Workshop is designed to help with.

Four Dances, One Transferable Skill
During this 75-minute workshop, Steven will help you develop practical ways to negotiate corners confidently. You'll learn corner groups which can then be used in multiple Ballroom dances (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep). This isn't just 'Buy One Get One Free' situation; it's 'Four For The Price Of One'!
What is great about this is, if you have never learned one of these dances, it doesn't matter! Bring the steps you already know, and Steven will help you understand how these cornering principles can support your own dancing.

the key to your SUCCESS
The familiar NATURAL SPIN TURN principle will provide the main foundation.
Some of you will recognise this action as what Steven often calls the “She, He, We Step”.
Steven will show you how practical cornering ideas can be used from closed, promenade and more open positions, depending on the dance, your position on the floor and what will help you continue most comfortably.
The aim is not simply to learn another figure. It is to understand how to use the steps you know when you actually need them, so that reaching a corner becomes a natural part of your dancing rather than an interruption.

What Will We Work On?
Steven will help you learn how to:
- Recognise that a corner is approaching.
- Prepare for the turn without becoming flustered.
- Choose a suitable way to negotiate the corner.
- Adjust the amount of turn to suit your position.
- Maintain your movement and partnership.
- Leave the corner ready to continue along the next side.
- Recover calmly when something does not go perfectly.
- Improve your floorcraft when sharing the room with other couples.
You will have time to practise these ideas with Steven’s guidance and become more comfortable with your lead, follow, direction and decision-making.
Why Is This So Valuable?
Corners appear repeatedly whenever you dance around a Ballroom floor.
Once you become more comfortable negotiating them, you can spend less time worrying about where you are going and more time enjoying the music, your partner and the dancing itself.
Rather than stopping, losing your routine or waiting for someone else to tell you what comes next, you can begin making confident decisions together and keep moving around the room.
